BACKGROUND OF CASE

•Maria Susairaj was a new South India film actress and Lieutenant Emil Jerome Mathew was her boyfriend. Both were said to be getting engaged two months later. Neeraj Grover was helping Susairaj to establish a foothold in the television industry and had also arranged few auditions for her. Susairaj had once told Mathew that Grover had a crush on her but she did not reciprocate. She had reportedly also stayed at Grover’s apartment for a few days. 

KILLING AND IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH

•Grover visited Maria’s Malad apartment (Dhiraj Solitaire) at 22:00 PM on 6 May to help her settle in. At the same time, Mathew called her up and got upset to hear a male voice in the background. When Susairaj told Mathew that Grover had come over to help her, Jerome asked Maria not to allow Neeraj to stay overnight. Mathew at that time was living in Kochi. However, he took a flight and came to Mumbai the next day without telling Susairaj. He reached her apartment at 07:30 AM, 7 MAY. Susairaj opened the door and Mathew went straight into the bedroom to find Grover in the room. As per media and police reports, the two men had an argument and then engaged in a physical fight. Mathew grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Grover, who died on the spot.

• The accused No.2 attempted to destroy the evidence of the murder of Neeraj Grover. And for that end, the accused No.1 purchased curtain, big chopper, sports bags, and room fresheners from Hyper city Mall. The accused No.2 chopped the body of Neeraj Grover into pieces and put the mutilated body in the sports bags along with other articles having bloodstains. The accused No.1 borrowed Santro Car from Kiran Shreyan(Friend of Maria). They put bags containing the mutilated body of Neeraj in the car and went to the outskirts of the City i.e. at Manor Wada. While traveling to Manor Wada, on the way, the accused No.2 purchased petrol from Vinod Kumar Mishra(Attendant at Petrol Pump), as well as lighter from Amar Bahadur Yadav(Shopkeeper near the pump). Accused burnt the sports bags containing mutilated bodies and other articles by pouring petrol over them.

How the story unravelled ????

  • On the say of friends of Neeraj, Accused No.1 also accompanied them to Malad Police station for lodging missing complaints.
  • Till 20-5-2008, where about of Neeraj Grover could not be found. Therefore, on 20-5-2008, Amarnath Grover(Father of Neeraj) made a complaint to Malad Police station about the kidnapping of Neeraj Grover.
  • On the morning of 21-5-2008, during interrogation by Satish Rajaram Raorane (Senior Inspector) (P.W.47), the accused No. 1 confessed of her involvement in the murder of Neeraj Grover with her fiancé, the accused No.2.
  • Accused no.1 led police party and panchas to Manor Wada and thereafter to right turn, and to a place near a pathway
  • Police found the leftover of the dead body.

  • Damaged tin bottle and its pieces.
  • Partially burnt metal button and coins.
  • Partially burnt knife. 

EVIDENCES FROM FLAT NO -201

  • Blood stains were detected beneath (under) the painting of outer kitchen wall , curtain of windows, knob, and T.V.Speaker of the bedroom.
  • 3/4 Jeans, T-shirt, Pair of Shoes and Pillow cover.

 THE VEHICLE

  • The accused took police party to Four bungalows Andheri(west) and showed Santro Car bearing Registration No.MH-O4-BQ-9866, which belonged to Kiran Shriyan(Friend of Maria).
  • Three-foot mats of the rear seat, 
  • Seat covers of rear seats
  • Dickey mat
  • Two sun protection sheets.
  • EVIDENCE FROM MALL
  • There was purchase for Rs.599/- on Debit Card no-4346765087879915 of HDFC Bank.
